Background Data

Regarding Background Data. I disabled background data on many apps like gmail and Facebook. My question is, If I access say gmail off my phone app, does it then search for new email on the server or do I have to Enable background data again. I will assume this would be true for all apps.

Hi @lmoriconi1,

Restricting background data simply keeps an app from using cell data when not on your screen. When active on your screen, apps that require it would have the necessary Internet access to function.

In other words, if you left your email app active on your screen, it would eventually look for new email. It’s also possible to manually refresh. For Gmail, it’s just a matter of swiping down from the top of the screen with the Gmail app active on your screen.
