BYOP Vs. Purchase from RW

Hello,

I live in area code where “BYOP is not available in your area.” I work in an area where All phones are available to me and BYOP is available.

  1. There are deals and phone sales and I would love to bring my own device and get a Republic Wireless SIM. How bad will my service be if I activate my phone at my work address then go home? Will it just not work? I don’t plan to purchase any data plan but only use wifi data.

  2. If I buy an unlocked phone, why wouldn’t I be able to activate it with republic wireless at my address where “BYOP is not available in your area?” Or would I be able to but the coverage would be poor? I guess i don’t understand why I would need to purchase specifically through Republic wireless in this situation.

Thanks in advance for your help and clarifications.

It appears that if you BYOP you will be GSM and if you buy a phone from RW you will be CDMA.

GSM:

4G LTE Coverage Map | Check Your 4G LTE Cell Phone Coverage | T-Mobile

CDMA:

Either way you will be able to activate your phone, but with GSM not until you restart your phone in the presence of a T=Mobile signal.
