Calls and/or texts to others aren't coming from my phone number

On Republic’s service you may experience an issue where your phone calls or texts or both aren’t showing the proper phone number to others. If this happens, first be assured that in nearly all cases your phone number hasn’t been changed without notice, which you can confirm by looking at your account or opening the Republic app on your phone and checking the Your phone info page. If you see the correct number in those places, keep reading to learn what you can do about the situation.

But wait, where does this other number come from? Republic’s patented hybrid network, which seamlessly combines Wi-Fi hotspots/networks and cellular networks, requires a secondary number in order for phone calls to reach you when your phone is using cellular coverage. That number, sometimes called a routing number, isn’t yours to keep, nor should you tell others to use it, and when all is working properly, it stays in the background and others will never know it exists. If it comes out of hiding, that’s usually an easily fixed glitch, settings, or phone setup problem.

How can this be fixed? The process varies depending on the phone, the symptoms, or the events just before the trouble began. Click the appropriate choice below to skip to the fix when this …
… began after a factory reset or moving a SIM card
… affects a previously OK Samsung that may also have missing texts or voicemails
… affects only texts sent by the Messages app from Google
… affects both calls and texts and nothing above applies or fixes it

Began after a factory reset or moving a SIM card

After either of those events, it's essential to install or update and then open the Republic Wireless app, and complete all changes it recommends.

Affects a previously OK Samsung that may also have missing texts or voicemails

Samsung models using Android 10 or later might put the Republic Wireless app to sleep in order to extend battery life. See this article for how to prevent that.

Affects only texts sent with the Messages app from Google

When Google’s Messages app has chat features enabled, texts to others who also have that enabled will bypass Republic’s texting system and can appear to come from a prior number or the secondary number. Fix this by turning off the chat features in that app’s settings section.

Affects both calls and texts and nothing above applies or fixes it

When all else fails, refresh your phone’s Republic activation.
