Can i update my moto x(1) to android 6?

What phone do you have?

What plan are you on?

Does your plan include data, or just talk & text?

Issue Description

the Moto X 1st Gen does not have a ROM beyond the 5.1
the boot load is locked and Motorola will not unlock it
if some how you where able to get a different ROM installed it would no longer be a Republic Phone and will no longer work on Republic. (the Legacy Phones have a custom ROM build by Motorola with Republic hooks for the hybrid VOIP cell backup service)

I would also note that phone model is long discontinued and End Of Life.
It was released in 2013. So 6yrs old.
Most phones are considered old and discontinued after 2.5 to 3 yrs.
Late model Pixel phones are the ones guaranteed OS upgrades for 2 years and security updates for 3. The other brand phones usually are lacking and are abandoned much sooner.

I know my phone is old (and small), but it’s kind of a matter of pride that I’m still using it. Not to mention that I’m also on a legacy plan (beta tester) getting unlimited everything for about $12.00 a month.
I’ll be sad when I have no choice but to change it out.
Right now my bank’s app won’t work on anything older than Android 6, so the time may be at hand…
Thanks again!
