Can I use my Moto G Power phone as a local phone when in the Philippines?

We are going to the Philippines for 2 months. I have a Moto G Power phone. I need to use it as a local phone, not just over internet which allows me to contact the US. How do I do this?

Thank you.

Hi @chrisk.t3iel2,

If by local phone, you mean the ability to exchange calls and text messages with local numbers in the Philippines, I’m afraid the answer is no. Calling local numbers there would require a third party app. Google Voice and Skype are options. I like Rebtel also.

More on what Republic phones can do when outside the U.S. is linked here:

Hi @chrisk.t3iel2,

As your travel would seem to be extended, purchasing a local SIM in the Philippines is an option. I do mention that in the article I referenced in my initial reply. It would not be possible to use Republic service locally or to use Republic service and local service simultaneously. It would be possible to switch back and forth by swapping SIMs.
