Can I use the SIM card from my existing MOTO X (1st Gen) in a Moto G4 Plus?

#1

I just ordered a Moto G 4 Plus from Motorola to use a BYOP. I currently have a Moto X (1st Gen) with a SIM card installed. Can I use this SIM card in the new phone, or do I have to order a new SIM?

Thanks.

No you cant

SIM in Legacy 2.0 phones work differently than 3.0 Phones and the SIM needs to stay with those phones

for the Moto G4+ you need Bring your own phone to Republic! | Republic Wireless or Amazon.com: Republic Wireless SIM Starter Kit: Cell Phones & Accessories

Hi @louishandrickp.geiznb

No, unfortunately it will not. You will need a Republic Wireless 3.0 SIM card that can be purchased in the Store or on Amazon.

The reason is that the X1 is a 2.0 CDMA phone, which utilizes the SIM in a different manner than the G4’s GSM SIM card. In CDMA phones the SIM is tied to the phone itself and is used to access 4G LTE, whereas in GSM phones the SIM is tied to the carrier.

Hope that makes sense and helps.
