Phones on Android 5.1 - Lollipop

To find Settings do a 2 finger swipe down from the top (or 2 - 1 finger swipes), then tap the Settings gear :gear:

Settings (Wireless & Networks) > Data usage: ensure you’re set as follows

  • Confirm Cellular data is on (green)
  • Tap the Menu icon :dots: at top right.
  • Ensure Restrict background data is displayed. If you see “allow background data” you have restricted it and need to tap to allow it… (Toggles will always say the opposite of the setting to indicate what will happen if you tap it.)

Settings > Wi-Fi > Menu :dots: > Advanced > Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep set to Always

Settings (Device) > Battery > Menu :dots: > Battery Saver

  • Confirm Battery Saver is set to off
  • Confirm “Turn on automatically” is set to Never
(Note: On will be indicated by the slide selector and red bars top and bottom. When set to On, the MQTT connection responsible for MMS and voicemail notifications will be blocked on cell, and you may experience call set-up problems)

Republic Wireless App > Settings :gear: > Cell data settings

  • Republic Refund plan users: Except when needed, ensure Roaming Data is Disabled and NOT Checked (Note: Roaming data on the 2.0 Republic Refund Plan uses your purchased data 18.3 times faster than non-roaming data.)
  • If you’re still experiencing cell data restrictions see No internet connection with cell

Preferred Roaming List (PRL)

  • Due to the increasing number of phones/manufactures that Republic now supports, the weekly check and update of this information will no longer be made available
  • Users are urged to update the PRL if they are experiencing calling and texting issues in a roaming area.

Phones on Android 4.4 - Kitkat

To access the Settings menu:

  • Swipe down from the top and tap the Quick Launch Menu image.
  • Tap the settings gear image

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Data usage:

  • Make sure Mobile data is On
  • Tap the menu icon :dots:
  • Republic Refund plan users: Except when needed, ensure Data roaming is not checked (Note: Roaming data on the 2.0 Republic Refund Plan uses your purchased data 18.3 times faster than non-roaming data.)
  • Ensure Restrict background data is not checked

Settings > Wi-Fi > Menu :dots: > Advanced

  • Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Always
  • Avoid poor connections: Unchecked
  • Wi-Fi optimization: Unchecked

Settings (Device) > Battery > Menu :dots: > Battery Saver
Tap Battery > Battery Saver and set it to off (Note: this is not applicable on Moto X (2nd Gen) )
(Note: When set to On, the MQTT connection responsible for MMS and voicemail notifications will be blocked on cell, and you may experience call set-up problems.)

DEFY XT - Required settings

To access Settings tap the hamburger menu icon :menu:

Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks:

  • Data enabled: Checked (green)
  • Data roaming: Checked (green) (Note: Ignore the warning about roaming charges; it doesn’t apply to Republic Wireless DEFY XT users)
  • Network Mode: EvDo auto
  • System select: Automatic

Settings > About phone > Build number: 1_65K_1027
(Note: If not at 1_65K_1027, then update in Settings > About phone > Phone Updates > System Updates)

Settings > About phone > Status: check PRL version (Preferred Roaming List) to make sure it indicates it is up to date.

Settings > Wireless & networks > WiFi Settings > Menu :menu: > Advanced:
WiFi sleep Policy: Never

Battery mode: Performance mode. (Note: Other battery modes will drop the WiFi connections, resulting in dropped calls.)

  • Tap Home image
  • Tap All Apps icon_apps
  • Tap Battery Manager 07%2BPM
  • Tap Battery Mode
  • Select Performance Mode

10 Digit dialing and texting: Always use 10 digits. (Area code and local number). Store contact numbers with the area code and local number to avoid dialing issues.

Other checks and common issues for the DEFY XT

Voicemail access: If the phone dials your own number when trying to access voicemail, you’ll need to reset the voicemail number. (Note: updating the profile will cause this, and the profile does not normally need to be updated except when working with the Help team.)
Settings > Call Settings > Voicemail Settings: Set the number to :two::one::four::six::six::four::nine::one::four::seven:

Lack of Memory: Many problems can be exacerbated by low memory (sometimes without any warning). See: DEFY XT: How to increase space for apps and avoid the "low memory" warning

Done … thanks for the input

@jben when was the Republic Telephony app updated ? mine still says 2.1.2.2246 no update listed in google play

As stated RW Telephony was updated on 3/25/16, checked my records against the Republic release notes and a couple phones (because the Telephony app is special ‘headless’ type and does not show install date within the system)

  • You might try ‘Uninstall’ … from the Google Play, for me this gave the opportunity to Update

Still list 2.1.2.2246 updated on 3/29/2016 and not 2.1.3.2267 listed above (and in my screen cap)

this is after an uninstall reboot reenstall

Sorry … I just post what I see and can confirm, you might try the following … then open a Ticket

  1. Tap Apps.
  2. Tap Play Store.
  3. Tap the Menu icon (three stacked horizontal lines) in the top left corner.
  4. Tap My apps & games.
  5. Tap UPDATE ALL.

For additional troubleshooting steps, please go to our Help Update: Unable to Update Republic Wireless App

Hi @drm186,

The Republic Wireless Release Notes are up to date. The RW Telephony app has not yet been updated beyond the 2.1.2.2246 level.

@jben, As an Ambassador who has opted into the opportunity to test Beta releases of the RW apps, the version you see on your phone may not always match the documented release version. I apologize for any confusion this has caused and will try pick up the task of communicating Beta releases to the participating Ambassadors.

(Note to readers: This post will not be updated as the app is updated and version numbers posted here should not be assumed to be current. Please always refer to the Republic Wireless Release Notes for updates to the latest version.)

If so, we just ran a PRL update on our Moto G1 phones today (10-23-2016) and they show 44057

Thought we’d check this before the possible system security update planned for later this month. Hope this helps!
