December/Nougat Update for Moto Z Play?

I’m just wondering why I haven’t received the December Security Update for my Moto Z Play yet, nor the Nougat update that was supposed to be released today. Someone on here told me that all that is handled on Motorola’s end, but I reached their customer service and they said that it’s on the carrier (a.k.a Republic’s end).

If you did not receive the December security update

  1. Clearing the Cache

  2. Go to Settings -> Apps -> (3 vertical dots) -> System Apps -> Motorola Update Services

Clear Data

If it doesn’t automatically prompt you for the update…try to look for it under

Settings -> About phone -> System updates

The Nougat update just started rolling out…and it might take a while.

The Customer Service person might have confused it with the Verizon specific version of the Moto Z Play…for which, Verizon controls the update schedule. For the RW phones which are factory unlocked, Motorola controls the update schedule.

My latest security update was November 2016 but I got Nougat this morning so I guess it just skipped over the December update completely? Everything on Nougat is running smoothly so far though no complaints here!
