Google has announced that beginning 9/27/2021, devices running Android 2.3.7 or below will no longer be allowed to sign in to Google Apps and services.
The DEFY XT is the only Republic Wireless supported phone impacted by this change. The DEFY XT operates on Android 2.3.7 and no newer version of Android is available for this phone.
You may see username or password errors when trying to use apps like Gmail, Google Maps, or YouTube on the DEFY XT. Some Google services will be available by using the phone’s browser rather than the app associated with the service. It will not be possible to add a Google account (for example, to set up a freshly factory-reset phone) after Google makes this change.
While this change does not directly affect Republic Wireless calling and texting, there may be an unforeseeable impact on the core functionality of this phone.
