How do I transfer my old phone number to my RW account?

I left Verizon and an iPhone for RW and a MotoG4 android. How do I transfer my old number to my RW account? Verizon says that RW has to request the number. If I close the Verizon account before getting the number transferred, I will lose the number forever. My Verizon account is still active, what do I need to do to transfer the number?

tap the bright green I want to bar --> Number Transfer | Republic Wireless
