How to enter numbers during a phone discussion

I have a MOTO G 1st gen phone and I called my credit card number to update it for a chip and while on the phone I was asked to enter my card number and I can’t find out how to get to the keyboard to enter the number. The only thing I can get is the keyboard to enter a new phone number. What should I do?

While on the call try selecting the “” button to get the keyboard.

Then dial each digit pressing about 1/2 - 1second, and pausing about as long between each digit.
