Moto G (4th Gen.) and Moto G PLUS (4th Gen.) System Update

Today, Motorola began the Maintenance Release (MR) soak for the Moto G4 and G4 PLUS. Please see below for release notes and instructions on how to install this update.

  • December 2016 Android security patch

Please note: As this MR is being progressively deployed over a longer period of time than previous updates, it may take longer than usual for it to be available for everyone.

Installing the Update

Please follow the instructions below to install a system update on your Moto G4 and G4 PLUS.

  1. Go to Apps.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap About phone.
  4. Tap System updates.
  5. Tap Update Motorola software.
  6. If the update is available to you, you’ll see a pop-up notification asking you to download. Tap Download.
  7. When the download is complete, tap Install now.
  8. After the software is installed, your phone will restart automatically.

Ok. I did that, but it always says I’m up to date. And I haven’t seen any notification either.

You indicated in another thread that your phone is a Moto G4 Play. The update described in this announcement is for the Moto G4 and Moto G4+.
