Porting to a different carrier

Unfortuantely after almost three years, I am leaving Republic Wireless for Metro PCS. Nothing against Republic Wireless, have loved them, just better deals and plans right now on Metro for our family. My question, Me and my families numbers were “successfully transferred” over as of yesterday, but I am still receiving my text messages to my Republic Wireless phone. Every thing else works just fine on my Metro phone.

  1. How long should the transfor/port take. I signed up on Sunday and got the message from Metro yesterday saying it was successful?

  2. Do I need to cancel my Republic Wireless account, or should the porting of the number do that for me?

A few days overlap is normal. My guess is that it is done so that an unwanted port can be retrieved if necessary.
