Received an odd text

I received a text message on a thread that makes it look like it came from me (I sometimes text myself pics, to get them into my download folder).

Anyway, the text says I got a message from somebody, and asked me to download the Republic App to see it. I already have the Republic App, but am unaware of any messaging feature.

It’s this some new spam, or something I just don’t understand, due to my advancing age?!

Yes, Galaxy Note 9 (got a sweet deal, cheaper than my G5+!)

That is likely my issue. I added the Republic App to that list.
