Republic Wireless Spirit Week 2018

#1

Every year our Republic Wireless team gets a little crazy with a fun-filled Spirit Week to raise money for a worthy cause. This year, we’re raising money for Holt Brothers Foundation, a local organization that supports and encourages children whose parents have cancer.

We have ten teams competing all week in lunch-time activities. Points are awarded for dressing according to the day’s theme and for placing in each day’s competition.

Here are some photos from 'Merica Monday yesterday and our water-balloon-batting challenge.

And of course once the challenge was complete, we all got to lob water balloons at the winning team:

The fun continued today with Tanks & Tats Tuesday. (:see_no_evil: Look at your own risk.) Today’s challenge was a slower-paced, teamwork challenge involving slingshots, tennis balls and targets painted on a field. It’s harder than it looks, folks.

Funniest thing I’ve seen all month.

Ok, ok. Maybe the Community profanity filters are a bit aggressive.

Nah. I don’t think so, but I do think that they ■■■■ ■■■■ ■■■■ and ■■■■ ■■■■ because of how ■■■■ they are.

Yesterday’s Spirit week event was one we’ll be talking about for years. We had a 30-minute scavenger hunt, on bikes, across NC State’s Centennial Campus, which, by-the-way, is not a particularly flat terrain. :scream: The scavenger hunt included clues to help us find five stops, and one horrifying task: Consume a cup of NC State’s own Howling Cow Ice Cream. Under normal circumstances this would be a delight, but in the heat of the day and followed by highly competitive, high-speed biking, it might not have been the best idea for some of us.

Today’s activity was crazy fun. We were given an assortment of “tools” such as a cardboard box, a clothes hanger, a plastic bat, a clip, a little bit of string, a strip of tape, scissors, a tube, and socks. Each team had a taped off square we could not enter, and inside it were 50ish balls of assorted shapes and sizes, from marbles to soccer balls. There was a 5-gallon paint bucket just out of reach in the center of the square.

The goal was to get as many balls as possible in the bucket without touching them, without stepping in the square, and without allowing the balls to leave the square.

Funniest part to me was how intently everyone listened to the instructions, and asked questions to clarify the details. You’d have thought the survival of the human species depended on the success of this event!

After the instructions, the game was revealed:

We sized up the playing field and the tools, had about a minute to think it through, and then had 5 minutes to get as many balls into the bucket as possible. Ready… set… go!

Any guesses what the clothing theme for today was?
