September & October: What's New and What's in the Works

Something strange happened on October 4th, 2016. Google announced their new highly regarded Pixel devices. At that exact same time Republic announced we’d be supporting the Pixel devices as part of our bring-your-own-phone (BYOP) program. That level of speed and reaction to a new device is unprecedented in our short history. In the past we required a time – and resource – intensive coordination effort with Google and their OEMs, plus certifying the devices on our partners’ cellular networks.

That process all but got abolished once we moved to our new Republic 3.0 architecture, which now enables us to bring you access to great new devices without delay.

Exciting times, and we’re already seeing you guys light up Pixels on Republic!

In other good news, we’re thrilled to announce that MMS compatibility with Cricket is now available. As an aside on this topic, we’d been ready for this compatibility on our side since late 2013, we’d simply needed our partners, including Cricket, to turn it on. That apparently happened in early October and you, our community was the first to figure it out and post about it. Upon a few quick verifications we were happy to mark this as delivered and move on!

Last, we made some improvements to our customer portal, namely making it easier to change your phone number and submit unactivated phone and accessory returns.
