SIM card not recognized

Hello,
I just purchased a Moto g5 plus from Motorola. Why is the sprint SIM card from my Moto x 2nd gen not recognized in the g5 plus? I reinserted it a few times and the Republic Wireless app keeps saying that I don’t have a SIM card inserted. Do I need to purchase the Republic Wireless SIM card?

The SIM card in your Moto X (2nd Gen) is unique to that particular phone. It will not work in any other phone and must stay with that phone even if you sell it or give it away. It is only used to provide LTE service.
