Transferring photos from Motog4 to computer

I just got a Moto g4 phone, and want to transfer photos from it to my Windows 10 computer. When I attach via usb cable and go to the device it indicates “this folder is empty.” Do I need to unlock somehow?

When we had a first generation Moto g, connecting to the computer via usb always brought up the memory and I could open DCIM or other files.

FYI - You can set up Google Photos to automatically back up and sync your photos:

https://support.google.com/photos/answer/6193313?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&hl=en&oco=1

Then your photos will all be stored at https://photos.google.com/.

You can also set Google Photos to free up space on your device by deleting backed up photos from the phone:
