Upgrading with byod

#1

I currently have a Moto g5 plus I bought through republic. I am thinking about upgrading to the Moto z2 play, which I will have to do by byod. Will I be able to take the Sim card out of the g5 and put it in the z2? Or will I have to purchase a new SIM card?

That depends. Please try this on your phone:

  1. Launch the dialer as if you were going to make a call.
  2. Tap the numeric keypad icon.
  3. Dial *#*#786#*#*

What does your phone do? Does the screen just clear or do you get a SprintDM screen?

I apologize, I’ve corrected the sequence above.

It clears out

Then yes, you can move the SIM card. You’ll need to use the Republic on the new phone to activate it in the new device.

For the record would I not be able to if it were to go to the Sprint DM screen? Because one phone on my account does it and the other does not

Changing phones by swapping SIMs is a GSM feature and can not be done with CDMA (Sprint) SIMs
