Using a MiFi without hitting limits

#1

My wife and I travel in the summertime, we use a verizon mifi device for internet service. How do I set my moto G4 to not update apps while on that monitored wifi?

We ran into some problems last summer with incredible overages on our monthly bill for data and discovered that our computers were updating on our monitored wifi while we were sleeping. We changed our computers to not update while on that wifi device. How do I set my new Moto G4 to not update while on that connection?

Hi @fitzrade,

Some suggestions:

  1. Open the Play Store app. Tap three stacked lines upper left. Scroll to, then tap Settings. Tap Auto-update apps. Select Do not auto-update apps.
  2. At Settings -> Data usage; tap three stacked dots upper right, then tap Network restrictions. Toggle on the network name for your MiFi device. The MiFi network will be treated as if it were a cellular data connection.
  3. Again at Settings -> Data usage; tap three stacked dots upper right. Tap Restrict background data. Tap OK. This last suggestion may cause some apps not to work as expected when not in the foreground (on your screen).
