I will be in Canada for a week, and I wanted to know what is the best way to communicate while I am there. Do I need to purchase a SIM card?
Which phone do you have
in short your phone will work on open WiFi networks to call US and Canadian Numbers
If you have a 3.0 phone you may install a local SIM and use that service while there but do note that while that SIM is install you will not be able to use the Republic number until the Republic SIM is reinstalled
for Legacy phone there is no Option to us a local SIM as the custom ROM phones don’t support it
Please see @rolandh post about international travel
Thank you for your response.
I have Moto E. Thanks for letting me know that with a SIM card I can’t use the Republic number. I did not know that.
Assuming your phone is a Moto E4 then one can use a local SIM as described above (the Moto E2 as a legacy phone can not use any SIM other than the Republic Legacy SIM, and the Moto E1 does not have a SIM Slot as it is a CDMA phone only)
Thank you for the additional information.
