Why is it not possible to block an sms sender with republics brand of phone?

why is it not possible to block an sms sender with republics brand of phone? have they jiggered the stock android messenger app?

for example why doesn’t this or ANY other stock android method work to block a particular sender?

"Block texts from certain senders

With Android 4.4, a text-blocking app can’t stop texts unless it’s also your text messaging app. And at Republic, on phones with Android 4.4 Kitkat, there’s only three apps that are qualified to be your text messaging app - the built-in Messaging app, Google Messenger, and Hangouts. On phones with Android 5.1 Lollipop, there’s just Messaging and Google Messenger.

The good news there is, either Google Messenger or Hangouts can be configured to automatically archive texts from certain senders. Here’s how:
Open the conversation with that sender.
Tap the 3-dot-button.png button at the upper right.
Tap People & options
Tap Block (sender name/number) and confirm it.

baffled in republic wireless land…

the Default android Messaging app that Motorola used was very simple and does not have this (and other) features

Republic phones also support Android Messages - Android Apps on Google Play which does have this feature (open the thread you want to block the sender for then tap the 3 vertical dot menu and tap the “People and Option” and there will be a block option)

thanks…
