It neat that this phone runs a Linux OS. I use Ubuntu on my laptop and would love to see some Linux phones gain popularity. Since Republic is currently built upon the Android platform though, I doubt they will add it to the lineup of compatible phones anytime in the near future, if ever.
I think it is safe to say that this phone won’t be added any time soon. Republic’s calling system requires very specific Android APIs to work. Building this capability for the Librem phone, which will sell very few units, would make no sense for Republic as their resources would be far better spent making the iPhone compatible and targeting the millions of iPhone customers rather than spending those resources to target a handful of Librem customers.
According to the latest blog update, Librem 5 won’t be available until 3Q 2019. There are few specifications available for this phone. If it ever comes to market there’s no telling what might happen, but I wouldn’t get my hopes up.
